Week 1 CST 338 Learning journal

I took a class about two years ago where I used java, and in Dr. C's words, that basically means having no experience at all lol. So, these homework assignments were pretty challenging for me. Definitely took me more than 45 minutes, like a LOT more. Now that I am done I feel a sense of relief that I was able to finish them on my own with no outside help. I approached these problems with logical thinking. I tried to go step by step in what the directions was telling me to do, then piece it all together. I found that this was an easier process than trying to build functional solutions right off the bat. Trying to think of the solution in my head, even with more complex problems, absolutely did not work. For a lot of the problems it took about 2-3 tries. And some of them only took one try. And then there were the problems where I had to get up and walk away from my computer because I wanted to cry. But, it worked out in the end. All is well.

Week 7 Learning Journal

Part 1: For our team’s final research video project, we’ve been using Discord to communicate, and it’s worked really well. We chat frequently, ask each other questions, and keep everyone updated on progress. It’s been a smooth way to stay connected and make sure no one feels out of the loop. We’re using Google Slides to build our presentation and OBS Studio to record and edit the final video. So far, the process has been going pretty smoothly, but if I had to improve anything for next time, I’d suggest setting deadlines a little earlier to give ourselves more buffer room. Overall, the collaboration has been solid and productive. Part 2: This week’s materials made me think about how little things can have huge effects. I chose a TED talk on cybersecurity, I realized how something as simple as clicking a link can lead to serious consequences. It was a good reminder to stay alert online. A TED talk I was interested in was by Amy Cuddy. It was on body language and it was really interesting...

Week 6 Learning Journal

Part 1: When our team got together to brainstorm capstone project ideas, we came up with several possibilities. A few that stood out were a mobile app focused on mental health, a machine learning tool for predicting energy use, and a cybersecurity solution tailored for small businesses. As we talked through each one, we considered how realistic they were and what kind of impact they could have. Personally, I was really drawn to the cybersecurity idea. It felt practical and relevant, especially with how many small businesses struggle to protect their data. The group seemed excited about it too, so we all agreed to do more research later on for this idea. I think we’re on a good track and I’m looking forward to seeing where this leads. Part 2: This week I went through the CSUMB Career Guide and the cover letter/resume lecture, and it actually helped a lot. I realized I need to start personalizing my resume more depending on the job i'll be applying for. I also didn’t really think ab...
