Week 2 Learning Journal

Part 1: After reading the Effective Study Skills paper, I think the top 3 skills I am good at are developing a weekly schedule, making sure to read instructions to properly complete assignments, and ensuring I always have a quiet study space with no distractions. Some of these skills come with trial and error but they have proven to be most beneficial in studying successfully. I think 3 skills I need to work on are organizing my notes when researching, the SQ3R method, and making every hour count. These study skills and methods are important to practice because they will be a big step up in being efficient with studying.

Part 2: Activity log

Part 3: Watching the three video presentations provided offered a lot of helpful tools that will boost my knowledge on project management. The first explained the five main phases of project management and the role of a project manager. The second showed how a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) helps organize tasks into smaller parts for better planning. The third introduced Gantt charts as a way to visually track timelines and task dependencies. Overall, these tools help keep projects organized, on schedule, and easier to manage.

Part 4: The first presentation I used was the OtterSoft team, they made a product called OtterParsing which allows a software to go through hundreds of resumes and pull out key information to make it easier on recruiters when finding the perfect fit for the job! I think the presentation was smooth and all the teammates understood their parts. Communicating who is talking about what makes it very helpful in the flow of the presentation. The second presentation I watched was the National AI-campus. They improved upon a product that allows brain tumors to be found using computer vision. This could be so beneficial to may people and change the course of the medical field! The third presentation I watched was DriveDiary. They created a web based application that helps users keep track of gas usage and/or vehicle maintenance to ensure continued safety. I though the presentation was eye-catching and smooth to watch.

Part 5: So far this week I have learned about project management, how to be a strong peer reviewer, and how to effectively study. There are many strategies on how to effectively study, and I have read a lot of information to help me better myself as a student when it comes to studying. I have learned that project management is very important and has a lot of important nuances to help me be a good teammate including collaboration and managing my time. I have gone over the peer review guidelines ad am aware on what to expect when peer reviewing my teams essays. We have yet to do that as it is only Wednesday, but I am prepared to do so since I read the guidelines. I still have to write my rough draft for the Industry  Analysis paper and turn it in to b be reviewed.

  3. Hi Faith, I really enjoyed reading your journal. You’ve clearly thought through what works for you when it comes to studying and time management. Having a quiet study space and sticking to a schedule are huge advantages. I also liked how honest you were about the areas you want to improve, like note organization and using the SQ3R method. I’ve been trying to get better at those too, and what’s helped me is creating quick outlines while I read so I don’t lose track of key points. Your reflections on the capstone projects were great, especially how you explained the purpose and impact of each one. You’re doing a great job balancing awareness of what’s working and where you want to grow. Keep going, you’re making real progress!
